How to Respond to an Abusive Incident

Session duration: Five hours

By the end of the session learners will be able to:

• Enable someone to tell you that abuse has occurred
• Understand the issues of confidentiality and consent
• Understand the stress / risk factors in relationships and / or in environments
• Deal with disclosure and immediate incidents
• Look after the vulnerable adult and assure their safety
• Preserve evidence and to write a report of the incident
• Have protection under the “Public Interest Disclosure Act”
• Have an awareness of what happens after reporting adult abuse
• Have an understanding of how staff / carers can prevent abuse.
